Conditions of Use: This database is available as an internal archive for instructors at UCSD. Instructors may download images from the database to their computers by "right-clicking" on the image (or, if you use an Apple Computer, by simply selecting the file and dragging it onto your desktop) . For copyright reasons, we ask that you do not make the password for the database available to your students. Usage of material in this database is restricted to educational purposes only. If you want to include material from the database in your own course website, please make sure that the site is password-protected.
The thematic galleries also include several short video clips that are drawn mostly from US newsreels from the 1940s and 1950s. At this point, the video clips cannot be downloaded and need to played from the database directly. To play the videos, you need Apple Quick time player. Simply click on the "View External Media" or link to the url listed below the short descriptions for each video clip. The images and videos were compiled largely by non-experts in the national histories to which they refer. If you notice any errors or misattributions in the database, please contact Frank Biess so that we can correct the mistake. We would also appreciate any other comments, criticism, or feed-back you might have.
This Image Database was compiled under the supervision of Frank Biess, Doug McGetchin, and Patrick Patterson. The project was made possible by a generous grant from the Instructional Improvement Committee and by equally generous financial support from Eleanor Roosevelt College. We also thank the Instructional Web Development Center for hosting and developing the Database. Three able graduate students -- Nathaniel Clark, Dan Lake, and Ryan Zroka --worked very hard to compile and digitize all the images and video clips included in this database.
